Suminet Communication Technology (Shanghai) Ltd. was established in December 2003. It is a corporation entirely invested by foreign investors, and is located in Shanghai City’s Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park. The registered capital was 700 thousand USD, and is a subsidiary of Japan’s Sumitomo Electric. It is the only development company set up by Sumitomo Electric in China.  Sumitomo Electric is the pioneer in Japan’s broadband access equipment development, and is the creator of Japan’s Annex C. specifications. It is also the world’s largest broadband access equipment supplier. Sumitomo has a solid technical foundation and practical experience in broadband access and connection gateway equipment development.  Adhering to the technological advantage of Sumitomo Electric in Japan’s broadband access equipment market, Suminet is committed to the design, development, production, and sales of broadband access communication equipment and computer software. Primary product development include network communication equipment GE-PON, PLC, IP-STB, xDSL, and CDN.

Currently, this company already provides FTTH EPON central office side OLT (Optical Line Terminal) and CPE side ONU (Optical Network Unit) equipment. A single chassis can supply a full load of 1024 subscribers (ONU). Suminet has assisted telecommunication operators in building fiber optics in northern, central, southern Taiwan, and helping home users connect to the Internet.

The EPON fiber to the home Internet access system not only has the advantage of using fiber optics to provide high quality and high bandwidth services, but because PON architecture only use active components at the central office and user side equipment, the optical fibers between these two ends only use passive optical elements. This avoids many installation and maintenance problems derived from exposing active components to the environment. In addition, there is no need to worry about remote power transmission and control problems.
